At 31, Bournemouth midfielder Ryan Christie is determined to help Scotland reach more major finals after his World Cup disappointment.

Ryan Christie has admitted he was left 'gutted' by Scotland's failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, but the Bournemouth midfielder is now 'desperate' to help his country reach more major tournaments. The 31-year-old says the pain of missing out on the global showpiece has only strengthened his resolve to ensure Scotland become regulars at major finals. Reflecting on the play-off defeat that ended Scotland's World Cup hopes, Christie said: 'It was one of the toughest moments of my career. We were so close to achieving our dream, and to fall short was devastating. It felt like a part of me was ripped out.' He admitted that it took him a long time to get over the disappointment. However, rather than dwelling on the setback, Christie has channeled his frustration into motivation. 'I want to help Scotland get back to major finals more than ever,' he emphasized. 'We have a great group of players, an excellent coaching staff, and we have the quality to compete. I'm desperate to be part of that journey.' Christie's career has taken him from Celtic to Bournemouth, where he has gained valuable experience in the Premier League. He believes these experiences have made him a more mature player, better equipped to handle the pressures of international football. 'Playing in the Premier League means I face top-class opponents every week. It has helped me read the game better and make smarter decisions under pressure.' Looking ahead, Christie is optimistic about Scotland's future. He credits manager Steve Clarke for the team's progress and highlights the emergence of young talents as a key factor. 'We are no longer a team that can be easily beaten. We have shown we can compete with anyone. Now we need to be consistent and show more resilience in crucial moments.' Christie particularly pointed to Scotland's performances in the Nations League as a confidence booster. 'We played some brilliant football in the Nations League, and it proved we can go toe-to-toe with Europe's best. Those victories gave us huge belief and brought us closer as a squad.' As Scotland prepare for the Euro 2024 qualifiers, Christie says the entire squad is excited about the challenge ahead. 'We know it will be tough, but we are ready. We want to prove ourselves and make the Scottish people proud again. My personal goal is to do everything I can to help the team achieve that dream.' Finally, Christie appealed to the Scotland fans: 'Please keep supporting us. Your backing means the world to us. We will give everything to not let you down. I believe that if we stay united, nothing is impossible.'
