Crystal Palace have signed Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer, subject to international clearance.

Crystal Palace have announced the signing of Spanish defender Oscar Mingueza on a free transfer, pending international clearance. The 25-year-old joins after his contract with Celta Vigo expired, making him a free agent. Mingueza came through Barcelona's La Masia academy and made his first-team debut in 2021. He went on to make 66 appearances for the Catalan giants, scoring two goals and providing four assists. In 2022, he moved to Celta Vigo, where he became a key figure in defense, amassing 78 appearances, four goals, and six assists over two seasons. Palace manager Oliver Glasner welcomed the signing: 'Oscar is an experienced defender who can play both as a center-back and full-back. His technical ability and game reading will strengthen our defense.' Mingueza expressed his excitement: 'I'm delighted to join Crystal Palace. The Premier League has always been a dream. I'll adapt quickly and give my all for the team.' Mingueza's arrival fills a gap in Palace's backline following the departure of center-back Joachim Andersen and amid speculation over left-back Tyrick Mitchell. His versatility allows him to cover multiple positions, providing Glasner with tactical flexibility. Palace have been active in the transfer window, having already signed midfielder Daichi Kamada and forward Ismaila Sarr. Mingueza is the club's third major signing this summer. Sporting director Dougie Freedman said: 'We are building a competitive squad, and Oscar's addition is a key step. He has top-flight experience and is in his prime.' For Celta Vigo, losing Mingueza is a blow. He was instrumental in their survival last season, with impressive defensive stats. However, the club has received funds from his departure and is already seeking replacements. Mingueza is expected to undergo a medical next week and be officially unveiled. Palace's season opener is against Brentford, and Mingueza could make his debut after settling in. The free transfer is widely seen as a shrewd piece of business, adding a quality defender without a transfer fee.
