Jude Bellingham says the external 'noise' around his place in the England team may help him find his best form during the World Cup.

Jude Bellingham has admitted that the external 'noise' surrounding his role in the England team could be the catalyst for him to rediscover his best form. The 20-year-old midfielder, who experienced a mixed 2024 European Championship, said in a pre-World Cup interview that criticism and doubt only fuel his determination. "I've always felt that when people question me, I become stronger," Bellingham said. "Having a chip on your shoulder is a good thing—it keeps you focused and motivated to prove them wrong." He added that he does not shy away from external judgment but instead uses it as fuel in training and matches. Bellingham enjoyed a stellar debut season at Real Madrid, helping the club win La Liga and the Champions League, but his performances for England have not always mirrored that club success. During Euro 2024, despite scoring a crucial goal, his overall display drew criticism from some pundits who felt he had not fully integrated into Gareth Southgate's system. However, Bellingham stressed his confidence in his role with the national team. "I know what I can bring to the team, and the coach trusts me. Sometimes the external noise just makes my goals clearer." He revealed that he has had in-depth discussions with the coaching staff to clarify his tactical responsibilities for the World Cup. England have been drawn into a competitive group, opening their campaign against old rivals Germany. Bellingham believes such challenges are exactly what the team needs. "We have a young and talented squad, but we need to prove ourselves under pressure. For me, this is the opportunity to show why I belong at this level." Former England striker and now pundit Gary Lineker said Bellingham's attitude is encouraging. "Top players always draw strength from criticism. Bellingham has all the attributes to become a world-class midfielder. If he maintains this mindset during the World Cup, he will be a key figure for England." With the World Cup fast approaching, Bellingham said he is ready for the challenge. "I don't care what others say. I just want to help the team win. If having a chip on my shoulder makes me play better, then bring it on." His words have certainly raised expectations among England fans.
