Ipswich Town complete the signing of midfielder Abdoul Ouattara from French club Strasbourg.

Ipswich Town have completed the signing of midfielder Abdoul Ouattara from French Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, the club announced on Friday. The 22-year-old Mali international has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Portman Road, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2028. The transfer fee is believed to be in the region of €10 million, making Ouattara the club's sixth signing of the summer transfer window. Ouattara rose through the ranks at Strasbourg's academy and made his first-team debut in 2021. Since then, he has made over 80 appearances for the French club across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing ten assists. Known for his versatility, Ouattara can operate both as a defensive midfielder and as a central midfielder, with his excellent tackling ability and forward-thinking passing range earning him plaudits. Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna expressed his delight at the capture, saying: "Abdoul is a young player with huge potential, and he has already proven his quality in Ligue 1. His arrival will add depth and competition to our midfield, and we look forward to seeing him showcase his talents in the Premier League." Ouattara himself was equally thrilled, stating: "I am very excited to join a club with such ambition as Ipswich. The Premier League is the best league in the world, and I can't wait to step onto the pitch and give everything for the team and the fans." The signing is a significant statement of intent from Ipswich, who are back in the Premier League after a 22-year absence. The club has been active in the transfer market this summer, having already secured the services of striker Liam Delap, winger Omari Hutchinson, and others. Ouattara's arrival further bolsters the midfield options, providing McKenna with more tactical flexibility. From a tactical perspective, Ouattara is expected to complement the existing midfield core, particularly captain Sam Morsy. While Morsy excels at dictating play and orchestrating attacks, Ouattara brings a more defensive edge and vertical thrust, which could enhance the team's transition play. His youth also aligns with the club's long-term vision, as he has the potential to develop into a cornerstone of the midfield for years to come. For Strasbourg, the sale represents a substantial profit, and the club will likely reinvest the funds to find a suitable replacement. As for Ouattara, he now faces the challenge of proving himself in the highly competitive Premier League, where the pace and physicality are a step up from Ligue 1. With the new Premier League season fast approaching, Ipswich are gearing up for the challenge ahead, and Ouattara's arrival has injected fresh optimism among the fanbase. Supporters will be hoping that the young midfielder can shine at Portman Road and help the club establish themselves in the top flight.
