WSL newcomers Birmingham City have signed Canada international Marie Levasseur on a two-year deal.

Birmingham City Women have announced the signing of Canadian international defender Marie Levasseur on a two-year contract. The 26-year-old joins the newly promoted Women's Super League side from French club Paris FC, where she spent the last two seasons. Levasseur, who can play both as a center-back and full-back, made 42 appearances for Paris FC, scoring three goals and providing two assists. Known for her defensive solidity and composure on the ball, she brings a wealth of experience to Birmingham's backline. The Blues secured promotion to the WSL by winning the Women's Championship last season. Manager Darren Carter expressed his delight at the signing: 'Marie is a top-class defender with international experience that will greatly strengthen our defense. We are thrilled to have her on board.' Levasseur herself is eager for the new challenge: 'Birmingham City is a club with great history, and I'm excited to be part of it. The WSL is one of the most competitive leagues in the world, and I can't wait to get started and help the team achieve success.' A regular for Canada, Levasseur has represented her country at the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her arrival not only bolsters Birmingham's defensive options but also adds valuable big-tournament experience to the squad. With the new season approaching, Birmingham City Women have been active in the transfer market, bringing in several new faces to strengthen the squad. Fans are optimistic about the team's prospects in the top flight, with the season opener against local rivals Aston Villa Women set to be a highlight. The signing of Levasseur underscores Birmingham's ambition to establish themselves in the WSL. The club's management has indicated they will continue to seek further reinforcements to build a competitive team capable of challenging for honors.
