West Ham United have signed Switzerland defender Nadine Riesen on a three-year contract following her departure from Eintracht Frankfurt.

West Ham United Women have announced the signing of Swiss international defender Nadine Riesen on a three-year contract. The 26-year-old joins the club as a free agent after her departure from German side Eintracht Frankfurt. Riesen's arrival is expected to bolster the Hammers' backline with her experience and quality. Riesen began her career in her native Switzerland, playing for Grasshoppers and Basel before moving to Germany in 2021 to join Eintracht Frankfurt. During her two seasons in the Frauen-Bundesliga, she made 45 appearances, scoring three goals, and established herself as a key figure in defense. She helped Frankfurt finish third in the 2022-23 season. On the international stage, Riesen has earned over 30 caps for Switzerland. She was part of the squad that reached the group stage of UEFA Women's Euro 2022 and played a crucial role in the qualifying campaign for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. Known for her strong aerial ability, positional awareness, and composure on the ball, she is capable of initiating attacks from the back. West Ham manager said: 'Nadine is an experienced defender who has proven her quality in the Bundesliga and with the Swiss national team. Her signing adds depth to our defense and brings leadership to the squad. We are delighted to welcome her to West Ham United.' Riesen expressed her excitement: 'West Ham is a club with a great history and fantastic fans. I am thrilled to be in London and start a new chapter in my career. I look forward to working with my teammates and helping the team achieve success in the WSL.' West Ham finished eighth in the Women's Super League last season, with defensive frailties contributing to a high number of goals conceded. Riesen's arrival is expected to address that issue. The club has also made several other summer signings, strengthening the squad overall. The target for the new season is to challenge for a top-six finish and make an impact in cup competitions. Riesen will wear the number 4 shirt and is likely to make her debut in the opening match of the season. West Ham Women begin their campaign in mid-August against Aston Villa.
